In addition to designing the stained glass windows and tapestries for Le Chateau de la Belle au Bois Dormant (Sleeping Beauty Gallery), I also designed a number of illuminated manuscripts (books) to tell the story. I used animation research for many of the books since the film had provided such a great reference. One of the most dramatic story points, not depicted as a book in the film, was the attack on Prince Phillip by the Maleficent/dragon creature.
This is an example of a color composition for those pages. It was produced to give the illustrator a clear understanding of the design intent. Unfortunately, since the show would not be ready for opening day the books would not be needed and no further art was generated under my direction.
